What We're Reading These Days at the Analog Office

Here at the Analog Office, we are looking forward to reading You Don’t Need a Smartphone, by August Lamm, and The Art of Organizing Thoughts: Slow Wisdom for a Fast World, by Shigehiko Toyama.

Both authors expand on the value of using paper for your thoughts, and share the ways they are using notebooks, envelopes, index cards, paper maps, etc.

Even though I haven’t read these books yet, I did flip through the pages of the books in the bookstore, and that is how I knew they discuss paper in the kind of lush, sensory detail I am looking for.

Speaking of lush, sensory details, one of the greatest sounds in the world is the sound of pages in a book going flip, flip, flip, as you search through them for whatever you were looking for.

Or the crinkling of a paper map. And then the low mutter of sotto voce salty language rising to pained shouts as you and your passenger-navigator realize the paper map was upside down, and you just missed the exit, and the next exit is 17 miles away. And now everyone in the car is late.

Tbh I don’t miss using paper maps while driving at all.
